This work was created at the end of 2023, as the Year of the Rabbit drew to a close.
It is a farewell to the zodiac— a symbol of time that inevitably returns, and inevitably passes away.
The Rabbit will come again. Even so, this particular Year of the Rabbit has certainly come to an end. That sense of quiet loss is expressed through the withered leaves placed in the background. The circular, moon-like motif alludes to reincarnation and cyclical time— to a continuity that does not break.
The boy understands this principle. That is why his eyes remain open, and why he holds the rabbit so tightly. Knowing both farewell and reunion, he still feels reluctance to let go. This work neither resolves nor denies that contradiction, but gently affirms it.
Itomagoi is not a declaration of an ending. It depicts an enduring premonition of farewell and renewal, even while knowing that all things will return.

本作は、2023年の終わり、卯年の暮れに制作した。
干支という、必ず巡り、必ず去っていく時間の象徴に、別れを告げるための作品である。
卯は再び巡ってくる。それでも、この一年としての卯年は、確かに終わってしまう。その寂しさを、背景に配した枯れ葉によって表した。月のような円環のモチーフは、輪廻や循環、時間が途切れず続いていくことを示している。
少年はその道理を理解している。だからこそ目を見開き、強く兎を抱いている。
別れと再会、その両方を知った上で、なお惜しむという感情。本作は、その矛盾を否定せず、静かに肯定する。
「いとまごい」とは、終わりの宣言ではない。巡ることを知りながらも、普遍的な「別れ」と「再生」の予感を描き出している。
